Ongoing Courses |
| Course: Lunch and Learn |
| When: Wednesdays at noon. Upcoming: 3/10, 3/17, 3/24 |
| Instructor: Rabbi Ruberg, Rabbi Tendler, Cantor Piltch |
| Description: Starting Wednesday, October 14th at noon, Rabbi Ruberg will resume his weekly Lunch and Learn sessions at the synagogue. Some of our members have come regularly to these classes for over a decade now. Others join the group every year. Topics vary from issues in American Jewish life to Bible study to developments in Israel today. Students may come regularly, occasionally or as one-time “drop-ins”. Lunch and Learn really is “come one, come all”. It will be helpful for those who are coming the first week, however, to call the office so we will know how much food to prepare. The cost each week, generally $5.00 per person, covers the cost of lunch. Rabbi Ruberg will teach the “learn” part of Lunch and Learn most weeks, but as occurred last year during his absence for medical reasons, Cantor Piltch and Rabbi Tendler are always willing and gracious enough to lead the sessions periodically. Beth El’s classes and programming have changed over the years, but one constant has always been the Wednesday noon Lunch and Learn, and beginning this month, this regular class will start again. |
| Course: Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah Year-Long Series |
| When: Thursday evenings from 7:30 – 8:45 pm. |
| Instructor: Rabbi Ruberg, Rabbi Tendler, Cantor Piltch |
| Description: Thursday, November 6 will be the opening session of a year-long adult Bar and Bat Mitzvah class that
will culminate in a group ceremony during the first months of calendar year 2010.
Rabbi Ruberg, Rabbi Tendler and Cantor Piltch will team up to teach the classes as well as to work with
the group to plan and prepare for the culminating ceremony. Close to ten women and men have already either
signed up or expressed serious interest, but we are leaving time during the High Holy Days to publicize the
class further, so that others will be able to join prior to the first sessions.
Sessions will be held regularly Thursday nights, a night when there seem to be few community conflicts.
The classes will run from 7:30 – 8:45 p.m. The basic outline of the sessions will be as follows: 1) Introduction to Bar/Bat Mitzvah 2) JUDAISM 102 Series 3) Hebrew Reading Series 4) Planning and Preparing for the Ceremony See the Mini-Courses section below for more details on each of these courses. The Beth El religious staff is looking forward to bringing another group of adults to this special milestone. Please feel free to call or e-mail Rabbi Ruberg to discuss the program, to get more detailed info. |
